Effigy (band)

Effigy was a hardcore punk band formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 1980. Heavily influenced by early UK hardcore bands like Discharge and Crass, Effigy carved a niche for themselves in the burgeoning Chicago punk scene with their politically charged lyrics and aggressive sound.

The band's initial lineup consisted of John Kegger on vocals, Earl Letiecq and Robert O'Leary on guitars, Chris Bjornstad on bass, and Joe Haggerty on drums. This lineup solidified their sound and began playing regularly at local clubs like Oz and Cubby Bear.

Effigy released several EPs and LPs throughout the 1980s. Their notable releases include the EP Haunted (1981) and the albums Evil Fragments (1985) and For Ever Grounded (1987). Their music often addressed themes of social injustice, political corruption, and the threat of nuclear war.

The band underwent lineup changes over the years, but John Kegger remained a constant presence and the driving force behind Effigy's continued existence. Effigy broke up in the late 1980s but has reunited for occasional shows and recording projects since then. Their music continues to be appreciated by fans of early American hardcore punk.
