Karskie

Karskie (Russian: Карские) refers to something pertaining to the Kara Sea. This Arctic sea, located north of Siberia and west of the Taymyr Peninsula, is a marginal sea of the Arctic Ocean. "Karskie" can be used adjectivally to describe features, processes, or phenomena related to the Kara Sea's geography, climate, ecology, or history. For example, the "Karskie Islands" would refer to islands within the Kara Sea, and a "Karskie expedition" might refer to a scientific or exploratory mission to the Kara Sea region. The term is derived from the name of the Kara River (flowing into the Kara Sea) and ultimately of Nenets origin. The word is commonly encountered in Russian scientific literature relating to Arctic studies.
