Belfast (Parliament of Ireland constituency)

Belfast was a parliamentary constituency returning two members to the Parliament of Ireland until 1800.

History

Before the Acts of Union 1800, which merged the Parliament of Ireland with the Parliament of Great Britain, Belfast was represented by two members. The right to vote was vested in the freeholders and freemen of the borough.

With the passage of the Acts of Union, the Belfast constituency was abolished and replaced with a single seat constituency in the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. This successor constituency was also named Belfast.
