Abaxis

Abaxis was a medical device company that developed, manufactured, and marketed point-of-care blood analysis systems for use in human and veterinary medicine. The company's primary product was the Piccolo Xpress chemistry analyzer and associated reagent discs. These systems were designed to provide rapid blood test results at the point of care, such as in a doctor's office, veterinary clinic, or research laboratory.

The Piccolo Xpress analyzer utilized a self-contained, single-use reagent disc that contained all the necessary reagents for a panel of tests. A small blood sample was added to the disc, which was then inserted into the analyzer. The analyzer automatically performed the tests and provided results within minutes. This capability allowed for quicker diagnosis and treatment decisions.

Abaxis's products were used in a variety of settings, including primary care clinics, urgent care centers, hospitals, veterinary clinics, and research institutions. In 2018, Abaxis was acquired by Zoetis, a global animal health company. Zoetis integrated Abaxis's veterinary diagnostic business into its existing portfolio.
