Luis García (footballer, born 1978)

Luis García Fernández (born 24 June 1978), commonly known as Luis García, is a Spanish former professional footballer who primarily played as an attacking midfielder and winger.

García began his career at Barcelona, progressing through their youth ranks, although he struggled to establish himself in the first team initially. He gained experience through loan spells at Real Valladolid and Toledo. He returned to Barcelona briefly before moving to Atlético Madrid in 2002.

After a successful season at Atlético, García was signed by Liverpool in 2004 by manager Rafael Benítez. He played a significant role in Liverpool's Champions League victory in 2005, scoring crucial goals throughout the campaign. He also won the FA Cup with the club in 2006.

In 2007, García returned to Atlético Madrid. He later played for Racing de Santander before embarking on a nomadic career that took him to Panathinaikos in Greece, Puebla in Mexico, and Atlético Kolkata in India. He retired from professional football in 2014 but made a brief return to the Central Coast Mariners in Australia in 2016.

García was also a Spanish international, earning 20 caps for the national team and scoring 4 goals.
