Thomas Allen (mathematician)
Thomas Allen (born August 10, 1938) is an American mathematician known for his contributions to the fields of number theory and coding theory. He received his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1965.
Allen's research has focused primarily on Diophantine equations, particularly those related to Waring's problem. He has published several significant papers exploring the bounds and solutions of these equations. In coding theory, his work has touched upon the construction and analysis of error-correcting codes.
He held positions at several universities, including a professorship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he remained for much of his career. Allen is known for his rigorous approach to mathematical problems and his dedication to teaching.
His published works include research articles in journals such as Acta Arithmetica and Journal of Number Theory. He has also presented his research at numerous conferences and workshops.
