Iglesia de San Pío X (Todoque)

The Iglesia de San Pío X was a Roman Catholic church located in the neighborhood of Todoque, in the municipality of Los Llanos de Aridane, on the island of La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain. The church served the small community of Todoque and was a significant local landmark.

The church's history is tied to the development and religious life of Todoque. Built in the mid-20th century, it provided a place of worship and community gathering for the residents. It was dedicated to Saint Pius X, Pope from 1903 to 1914.

The architecture was relatively simple, reflecting the functional needs of the local congregation. It was a modest structure, representative of the rural churches common in the Canary Islands.

In September 2021, the church was completely destroyed by lava flows from the Cumbre Vieja volcanic eruption. The eruption consumed the entire village of Todoque, including the Iglesia de San Pío X, leaving no trace of the structure. The loss of the church was a significant blow to the community, representing not only the destruction of a religious building, but also the loss of a vital social and historical anchor for the people of Todoque. Its reconstruction at the same location is improbable due to the altered landscape now covered by solidified lava.
