VMF-511
VMF-511 was a United States Marine Corps fighter squadron. Originally commissioned during World War II as VMF-121, it was redesignated VMF-511 on May 1, 1944. The squadron fought in several campaigns, notably during the Battle of Okinawa. After the war, VMF-511 was decommissioned on December 15, 1945. The squadron operated primarily the F4U Corsair fighter aircraft. Its primary mission was providing close air support and air superiority for ground forces.
