METAP1
METAP1 refers to Methionine Aminopeptidase 1, a cytosolic enzyme found in eukaryotes. It catalyzes the removal of the N-terminal methionine residue from nascent polypeptide chains. This proteolytic processing is a crucial step in protein maturation, affecting protein stability, function, and localization. METAP1 is essential for cell growth and development. Inhibition or dysfunction of METAP1 has been implicated in various diseases, including cancer. In humans, the METAP1 gene encodes the METAP1 protein.
