Fred Davis (broadcaster)
Fred Davis (1921-1996) was a Canadian broadcaster, best known as the creator, host, and producer of the CBC Television quiz show Front Page Challenge.
Davis was born in Toronto, Ontario. He began his broadcasting career in radio before transitioning to television. Front Page Challenge, which debuted in 1957 and ran until 1995, became one of the longest-running and most popular television programs in Canadian history. The show featured a panel of journalists who attempted to guess the identity of a mystery guest based on yes or no questions related to a headline that involved the guest. Davis's calm demeanor, wit, and interviewing skills were key to the program's success. He was also known for his catchphrase, "Thank you, and good night to you".
Beyond Front Page Challenge, Davis worked on other CBC programs. He was a recipient of the John Drainie Award for distinguished contribution to broadcasting in Canada and a member of the Order of Canada. He is remembered as a pivotal figure in Canadian broadcasting history.
