Deckdisc
A Deckdisc, typically spelled as two words ("Deck Disc"), refers to a circular, often rubberized or padded, object placed on the platter of a direct-drive turntable. Its primary function is to improve grip and control for DJs and turntablists when manipulating vinyl records. By increasing the surface area and friction between the hand and the record, Deck Discs allow for more precise scratching, backspinning, and overall record handling during performance. They are an alternative to directly touching the vinyl surface, which can cause wear and introduce unwanted noise. Deck Discs often feature a recessed center hole to accommodate the record spindle. Different materials and textures offer varying degrees of grip and responsiveness, catering to individual DJ preferences and playing styles. Some variations may incorporate integrated slipmats for enhanced performance.
