Ian Smith (Australian politician)

Ian Smith (born 11 May 1939) is an Australian politician who served as a Liberal Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1967 to 1999, representing the electoral districts of Warrnambool (1967-1985) and then South-West Coast (1985-1999).

Smith held several ministerial portfolios during his parliamentary career, including Minister for Social Welfare (1970-1972), Minister of Agriculture (1981-1982), Minister for Industry, Commerce and Technology (1992-1996), and Minister for Multimedia (1996-1999). He was a prominent figure in the Victorian Liberal Party and known for his strong conservative views.

Following his retirement from politics in 1999, Smith remained involved in public life, often commenting on current affairs.
