Flip cup
Flip cup (also known as canoe, taps, flippy cup, or tip cup, among other regional variations) is a team-based drinking game where players must, in turn, completely consume the contents of a cup and then successfully flip the cup from a table edge using only one hand.
Gameplay:
Flip cup is typically played with two teams of equal numbers, standing on opposite sides of a long table. Each player has a cup placed in front of them. Cups are typically plastic and partially filled with beer, although other drinks (often non-alcoholic) can be substituted. At the start of the game, the first player on each team drinks the contents of their cup. Once finished, they place the empty cup face-up on the edge of the table and attempt to flip it upside down (so the open end faces down) using only one hand. The cup must be flipped by flicking the bottom edge upwards.
Players can typically attempt the flip as many times as needed, but they cannot manipulate the cup in any other way. Once a player successfully flips their cup, the next player on their team can begin drinking and flipping their cup.
Winning:
The team that finishes first, with all players successfully flipping their cups, wins the game.
Variations:
Numerous variations of flip cup exist, including variations on the amount of liquid consumed, the way the cup is flipped, and penalties for failure. Some variations introduce rules related to bouncing the cup before flipping or stipulating the distance from the edge the cup must be placed.
Considerations:
Like all drinking games, flip cup should be played responsibly and in moderation. Participants should be aware of their own alcohol tolerance and the potential risks associated with excessive alcohol consumption. In many regions, there are legal age restrictions on the consumption of alcohol that must be observed.
