Harry Forbes (boxer)
Harry Forbes (July 13, 1879 – December 6, 1946) was an American boxer who held the World Bantamweight Championship from 1901 to 1903. Born Harry Finkelstein in Brooklyn, New York, he was one of the "Brooklyn Three" alongside fellow Jewish boxers Joe Bernstein and Jack O'Brien. Forbes began boxing professionally in the late 1890s.
His most notable achievement was capturing the World Bantamweight title on November 11, 1901, in St. Louis, Missouri, defeating Danny Dougherty via a 5th round technical knockout. He successfully defended the title several times before losing it to Frankie Neil on August 13, 1903, in San Francisco, California.
After losing the title, Forbes continued to box, often competing as a featherweight. He faced many of the top fighters of his era. While he never regained a major title, he remained a respected and competitive boxer for many years. Forbes retired from professional boxing in the late 1910s. He died in 1946.
