A989 road

The A989 is a short, non-primary A-road in Scotland. It acts primarily as a bypass for the town of Thurso in Caithness, connecting the A9 to the A836. The road is relatively modern, constructed to alleviate traffic congestion within Thurso itself. The A989 allows traffic heading to or from Scrabster harbour, a major ferry terminal, to avoid the town centre. The route provides a more direct and efficient passage for lorries and other commercial vehicles. The road is primarily single carriageway.
