The mountain is named for John Quincy Adams, sixth President of the United States.
Mount Adams is a popular destination for hikers, offering challenging climbs and panoramic views of the surrounding wilderness. It is accessible via several trails, including the Van Hoevenberg Trail, which is also used to ascend Mount Marcy.
The summit of Mount Adams is largely bare rock, providing unobstructed views. The alpine vegetation on the upper slopes is fragile and susceptible to damage, so hikers are encouraged to stay on marked trails and practice Leave No Trace principles.
