Governor of the Federal District (Brazil)

The Governor of the Federal District is the chief executive of the Federal District of Brazil, which includes the capital city of Brasília. The Governor is elected by direct popular vote to a four-year term. Like governors of Brazilian states, the Governor of the Federal District exercises executive power, administering the Federal District government, proposing legislation to the Legislative Chamber of the Federal District (the local legislative body), and overseeing public services within the District.

The Federal District, unlike Brazilian states, does not have municipalities. Therefore, the Governor also performs some of the functions typically assigned to mayors in other parts of Brazil. The Governor's responsibilities extend to managing aspects of urban planning, sanitation, transportation, and other municipal-level services within Brasília and its satellite cities.

The official residence and workplace of the Governor are located in the Palácio do Buriti. The office is a significant political position within Brazil, given the District's importance as the nation's capital.
