Survive (band)

Survive (stylized as S U R V I V E) is an American electronic music band from Austin, Texas, formed in 2008. The band is best known for composing the soundtrack for the Netflix science fiction horror series Stranger Things.

History:

The band consists of Michael Stein, Kyle Dixon, Mark Donica, and Adam Jones. Stein and Dixon had previously collaborated on various musical projects. The band’s early work was largely influenced by experimental electronic music, Italian horror soundtracks, and progressive rock.

Survive gained wider recognition after their 2016 album RR7349, released on Relapse Records, and more significantly through their involvement with Stranger Things. The show's creators, the Duffer Brothers, were fans of their music and contacted Stein and Dixon to compose the score.

Musical Style:

Survive's music is characterized by its dark, analog synthesizer-driven soundscapes, often described as a blend of ambient, progressive electronic, and horror soundtrack influences. Their sound utilizes vintage synthesizers to create textures and melodies reminiscent of 1980s film scores. Their tracks are often instrumental and focus on creating atmosphere and mood.
