Asterix at the Olympic Games (film)
Asterix at the Olympic Games is a 2008 live-action comedy film based on the Asterix comic book series. It is the third live-action film featuring the popular Gaulish heroes, following Asterix & Obelix Take On Caesar (1999) and Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra (2002).
The film follows Asterix and Obelix as they travel to Greece to help their friend Lovestorix win the Olympic Games so he can marry Princess Irina of Greece. However, the villainous Brutus, son of Julius Caesar, also seeks to win the games in order to eliminate his father and seize power.
Directed by Frédéric Forestier and Thomas Langmann, the film features a large ensemble cast including Clovis Cornillac as Asterix, Gérard Depardieu reprising his role as Obelix, Alain Delon as Julius Caesar, and Benoît Poelvoorde as Brutus. Many athletes and celebrities also appear in cameo roles.
Asterix at the Olympic Games is notable for its large budget and elaborate production design. Despite its popularity, the film received mixed reviews, with critics often citing a weak plot and reliance on slapstick humor. Nevertheless, it was a commercial success, particularly in Europe. The film's special effects, set designs, and costume designs are considered highlights by some viewers.
