Walter Powers (musician)

Walter Powers (born August 17, 1946) is an American musician, best known for his time as the bassist for The Velvet Underground. He joined the band in 1970, replacing Doug Yule, and played on their final studio album, Loaded.

Prior to joining The Velvet Underground, Powers played in several Boston-area bands. After the breakup of The Velvet Underground, he continued to be involved in music, though less prominently.

His contributions to Loaded include bass guitar, backing vocals, and, according to some sources, the song "Head Held High" is partially autobiographical about him.

Powers has given interviews in more recent years, discussing his time with The Velvet Underground and his subsequent musical endeavors. He provides a unique perspective on the band's later period and the circumstances surrounding Loaded.
