Fay Chong

Fay Chong (born 1912, died 1973) was a Chinese-American artist known primarily for his contributions to Northwest modern art. He worked in a variety of media, including watercolor painting, woodblock printing, and mosaic.

Chong's artistic style evolved over time, initially drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy. He later embraced modernist principles, experimenting with abstraction and non-representational forms while often retaining subtle influences from his cultural heritage. His woodblock prints often featured bold designs and striking color combinations. His mosaics, which were often large-scale public works, demonstrated a command of color and texture.

Chong was a significant figure in the Seattle art scene. He studied at the Cornish School in Seattle and was actively involved in the local arts community. His work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums, and he is considered an important figure in the development of modern art in the Pacific Northwest. He is also remembered for his teaching and mentoring of younger artists.
