Ichapore

Ichapore is a small town and a gram panchayat in the Haringhata CD block in the Kalyani subdivision of the Nadia district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is situated near the India-Bangladesh border.

Historically, the name "Ichapore" or "Ichapur" has also been associated with larger areas around the current village, sometimes encompassing parts of the neighboring North 24 Parganas district. During British colonial times, the area was known for its gun and ordnance factory, the Rifle Factory Ishapore (often spelled Ishapore), which contributed significantly to the local economy and history. While the factory's name uses "Ishapore," this historically referred to the broader region, which included present-day Ichapore.

Today, Ichapore's economy is primarily based on agriculture and small businesses. The legacy of the Rifle Factory Ishapore continues to influence the area, although the direct impact on the village of Ichapore is less pronounced than on the area immediately surrounding the factory itself. The village reflects a blend of rural West Bengal life with a historical connection to industrial production.
