Down to Earth (2001 film)

Down to Earth is a 2001 American fantasy-comedy film directed by Chris Weitz and Paul Weitz, starring Chris Rock. It is a remake of the 1978 film Heaven Can Wait, which was itself based on Harry Segall's play Heaven Can Wait.

The film tells the story of Lance Barton (Chris Rock), a struggling stand-up comedian in Harlem who dies prematurely in an accident. Upon arriving in Heaven, he learns that he was accidentally brought there too soon due to a clerical error. He is given a new chance at life, but his soul is placed in the body of a wealthy, elderly white businessman named Charles Wellington.

As Charles Wellington, Lance attempts to navigate his new life and reconnect with his old life as a comedian, facing challenges related to race, wealth, and identity. He also tries to win over the woman he was in love with before his death.

The film features themes of identity, second chances, and the complexities of life. It received mixed reviews upon its release and was a moderate box office success.
