Elginshire and Nairnshire (UK Parliament constituency)

Elginshire and Nairnshire was a county constituency in Scotland that returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It existed between 1708 and 1918.

Creation and Abolition:

The constituency was created by the Acts of Union 1707, which merged the Kingdom of England and the Kingdom of Scotland, and replaced the former Parliament of Scotland and the Parliament of England with the Parliament of Great Britain. Elginshire and Nairnshire combined the shires (counties) of Elgin (also known as Moray) and Nairn for parliamentary representation.

The constituency was abolished in 1918, as part of the Representation of the People Act 1918. Its area was then divided between the new constituencies of Moray and Nairn and Inverness.

Boundaries:

The constituency comprised the entirety of the geographic counties of Elginshire and Nairnshire. Boundary changes affecting the geographic counties would have also affected the constituency.

Members of Parliament:

The constituency was represented by a single MP throughout its existence. Records of the MPs who represented Elginshire and Nairnshire can be found in parliamentary records and historical databases. Further research is necessary to compile a complete and accurate list.
