Jühnde

Jühnde is a municipality in the district of Göttingen, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is located approximately 15 km southwest of Göttingen.

Jühnde is notable for being Germany's first "bioenergy village." In 2005, the village shifted its energy supply to renewable sources, primarily biogas generated from locally grown crops and agricultural waste. This initiative made Jühnde energy independent and significantly reduced its carbon footprint. The project serves as a model for other communities seeking to transition to sustainable energy systems. The village's central heating system is powered by a combined heat and power plant fueled by the biogas. The remaining heat after energy generation is used for agricultural purposes, maximizing efficiency. The success of the Jühnde project has attracted international attention and inspired similar endeavors in other regions.
