Terence Donovan (photographer)

Terence Donovan (14 September 1936 – 11 November 1996) was an influential British photographer and film director, best known for his fashion, celebrity, and advertising work. He was a key figure in the "Terrible Trio," alongside David Bailey and Brian Duffy, who revolutionized fashion photography in 1960s London.

Donovan's photography was characterized by its gritty realism and dynamic compositions. He often shot on location in urban environments, moving away from the more traditional studio-bound style. His work captured the spirit of the "Swinging Sixties" and helped to redefine the image of the modern man.

He worked for numerous prestigious fashion magazines, including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and Elle, and photographed many iconic figures, including Twiggy, Princess Diana, and Margaret Thatcher.

Beyond fashion, Donovan was also a successful advertising photographer and director. He created memorable campaigns for brands such as Pirelli and Smirnoff. His directing work included commercials and music videos, notably the iconic Robert Palmer video for "Addicted to Love".

Donovan's legacy rests on his significant contribution to fashion photography, his influence on subsequent generations of photographers, and his ability to capture the zeitgeist of his era. His work is held in major museum collections worldwide.
