Reverend (band)
Reverend was a British indie rock band formed in 2007 in West Yorkshire, England. The band was fronted by Jon McClure, previously of the band Judan Suki and best known for his subsequent work with Reverend and The Makers. Reverend's sound was characterised by socially conscious lyrics delivered with a distinctive Yorkshire accent, set against a backdrop of melodic and energetic guitar-based music.
The band's initial lineup also included Ed Cosens, Joe Carnall, and Rich Westley. Their music often addressed themes of working-class life, political dissatisfaction, and everyday struggles in Britain. They gained recognition through early singles and live performances before releasing their debut album, The State of Things, in 2007. The album received positive reviews and helped establish Reverend as a prominent act in the UK indie scene.
While Reverend enjoyed a period of success, Jon McClure eventually decided to put the band on hiatus to focus on his other project, Reverend and The Makers, which became more commercially successful. Some members of Reverend later joined or collaborated with Reverend and The Makers. The original Reverend lineup is not currently active.
