Eichsfeld (district)

The Eichsfeld is a district (Kreis) in Thuringia, Germany. It is located in the northwest of the state and borders Lower Saxony and Hesse. The district seat is Heilbad Heiligenstadt.

Geography

The Eichsfeld district lies in the historical region of the same name, the Eichsfeld, which historically was predominantly Catholic and part of the Archbishopric of Mainz. History
