GameFAQs
GameFAQs is a website that hosts frequently asked questions (FAQs), walkthroughs, game guides, reviews, save files, message boards, and other information pertaining to video games. It is one of the longest-running and largest repositories of video game information on the internet.
Founded in November 1995 by Jeff Veasey, GameFAQs relies primarily on user-submitted content. Users write FAQs, guides, and reviews, which are then reviewed and, if approved, posted to the site. This crowdsourced model has allowed GameFAQs to accumulate an extensive library covering a vast range of gaming platforms and titles, including both current and retro games.
The site's content is organized by platform (e.g., PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC) and then by individual game titles. Each game entry typically includes a variety of user-submitted guides, covering different aspects of the game, such as gameplay mechanics, story walkthroughs, character builds, and secrets.
In addition to its archive of guides, GameFAQs is also known for its active message boards. These forums allow users to discuss games, ask for help, share tips, and engage in general gaming-related conversations. Moderation of the boards is handled by a team of volunteer users.
GameFAQs was acquired by CNET Networks in May 2003. CNET Networks was later acquired by CBS Corporation in 2008, which then became ViacomCBS and later Paramount Global. As such, GameFAQs is currently owned by Paramount Global. While the site has undergone design changes over the years, its core function as a repository for user-submitted video game information remains consistent.
