Buck Ryan

Buck Ryan was a British comic strip character created by Jack Monk and initially drawn by him from 1937 to 1939. The strip centered around the adventures of Buck Ryan, a square-jawed, athletic, and resourceful reporter. It was known for its fast-paced plots, exotic locales, and elements of espionage and science fiction, placing it firmly within the adventure comic genre popular at the time.

After Monk’s departure, the strip was taken over by several artists, most notably Roy Davis, who continued to draw the strip for the majority of its run, from 1939 until its end in 1962. Davis refined the visual style of the strip and maintained its popularity with readers. Buck Ryan appeared in the Daily Mirror newspaper.

The strip's storylines often involved Buck Ryan investigating criminal conspiracies, battling spies, and exploring uncharted territories. Common themes included combating villainous organizations, rescuing damsels in distress, and solving mysteries. While reflective of the era in which it was created, Buck Ryan offered escapist entertainment for readers, incorporating elements of adventure, action, and suspense. The strip ceased publication in 1962.
