East Yorkshire (bus company)

East Yorkshire, formerly known as East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS), is a bus operator based in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The company provides an extensive network of services throughout East Yorkshire, Hull, and parts of North Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

History:

The company's origins can be traced back to 1926 when the Hull Corporation Transport Department expanded its operations beyond the city boundaries and began operating in the East Riding. In 1933, the East Yorkshire Motor Services Limited was formed as a separate entity. It was initially a joint venture between the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) and the Hull Corporation, with a fleet of around 50 buses. Following nationalisation in 1948, East Yorkshire became part of the British Transport Commission.

In 1969, with the creation of the National Bus Company (NBC), East Yorkshire became a subsidiary. During the NBC era, East Yorkshire faced various challenges, including competition from independent operators.

In 1987, as part of the privatisation of the National Bus Company, East Yorkshire was sold to its management team, led by Peter Shipp. The company continued to operate under the East Yorkshire Motor Services name.

In 2018, the company was acquired by the Go-Ahead Group, a major public transport operator. Despite the acquisition, the company retained its local branding and identity. In 2023, the company rebranded, dropping "Motor Services" from its name and becoming simply "East Yorkshire".

East Yorkshire operates a wide range of bus services, including:

The company is known for its distinctive livery, which has evolved over the years. Under Go-Ahead ownership, the company has invested in new, low-emission buses to improve service quality and reduce its environmental impact.
