Byōdō-ji
Byōdō-ji (平等寺) is a Buddhist temple name, most commonly referring to a temple located in Tokushima Prefecture, Japan. It is Temple 22 on the Shikoku Pilgrimage, a route of 88 temples associated with the Buddhist monk Kūkai (Kōbō-Daishi). While this is the most well-known Byōdō-ji, the name (meaning "Temple of Equality") can be used for other Buddhist temples as well, though these may be less prominent. The Byōdō-ji on the Shikoku Pilgrimage is known for its connection to a legend involving Kōbō-Daishi and its scenic location. It houses various cultural properties and attracts pilgrims from all over Japan.
