Cocoon (film)

Cocoon is a 1985 American science fiction comedy-drama film directed by Ron Howard. The film stars Don Ameche, Wilford Brimley, Hume Cronyn, Brian Dennehy, Jack Gilford, Steve Guttenberg, Maureen Stapleton, Jessica Tandy, and Gwen Verdon.

The plot revolves around a group of elderly people living in a retirement community in Florida who discover that a nearby swimming pool contains alien cocoons that imbue them with youth and vitality. These cocoons are being kept in the pool by extraterrestrials (Antareans) who are returning to Earth to retrieve them.

The film explores themes of aging, mortality, the value of life, and the possibility of rejuvenation. It was a critical and commercial success, winning two Academy Awards: Best Supporting Actor for Don Ameche and Best Visual Effects. A sequel, Cocoon: The Return, was released in 1988.
