Khumjung

Khumjung is a village in the Khumbu region of Nepal, located within the Sagarmatha National Park. It is situated at an altitude of approximately 3,780 meters (12,400 feet) above sea level, making it one of the higher-altitude settlements in the region. Khumjung is primarily inhabited by Sherpa people, and their traditional culture and way of life are still prominent.

The village is known for its stone houses, terraced fields, and relatively large size compared to other settlements in the high-altitude areas of Khumbu. Khumjung also boasts a notable monastery, Khumjung Gompa, which is said to house a supposed yeti scalp. The village is a popular stop for trekkers and climbers on their way to Everest Base Camp and other peaks in the Himalayas.

Khumjung benefits from the Edmund Hillary Foundation's efforts to improve education and healthcare in the Khumbu region. The Hillary School, founded by Sir Edmund Hillary, is located in Khumjung and provides education to local children.

The economy of Khumjung is primarily based on tourism, agriculture (including potato farming), and animal husbandry (yak and other livestock). The village offers teahouses and lodges for trekkers, contributing significantly to the local economy.

Khumjung offers stunning views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and other Himalayan peaks.
