Dimiat

Dimiat is a white grape varietal primarily cultivated in Bulgaria, but also found in other Balkan countries like Romania and Turkey. It is one of Bulgaria's oldest and most widespread grape varieties, traditionally used for the production of dry white wines and, historically, for brandy production.

Dimiat grapes are known for their aromatic profile, which often includes floral notes, citrus, and a subtle spiciness. The resulting wines are typically light-bodied with moderate acidity and alcohol levels. They are often consumed young.

The grape is considered relatively easy to cultivate, contributing to its popularity amongst growers. However, it can be susceptible to certain fungal diseases.

While Dimiat was once more widely planted, its popularity has decreased somewhat in recent years with the introduction of international grape varieties. Nevertheless, it remains an important part of Bulgaria's viticultural heritage, and efforts are underway to preserve and promote its unique characteristics. It is often blended with other local varieties to produce wines with enhanced complexity.
