John Rashleigh (1619–1693) of Coombe

John Rashleigh (1619–1693) of Coombe was a Cornish landowner, merchant, and Member of Parliament. He belonged to the prominent Rashleigh family of Fowey, Cornwall, and was the son of John Rashleigh (died 1624) and his wife, Alice Bonython.

He inherited considerable wealth and property from his family, including the estate of Coombe, near Fowey. Rashleigh expanded his family's business interests, particularly in mining and international trade. He was involved in the tin and copper mining industries, crucial to the Cornish economy. He also engaged in maritime trade, with ships owned by the Rashleigh family plying routes to Europe and potentially further afield.

John Rashleigh served as a Member of Parliament for Fowey on several occasions during the reigns of Charles II and James II. His parliamentary career reflects the shifting political landscape of the period. He was active in local affairs, serving as a Justice of the Peace and holding other positions of local authority.

He married Joan Polwhele, daughter of John Polwhele of Polwhele, and they had several children. His descendants continued the Rashleigh family's prominence in Cornish society for generations. He is remembered as a significant figure in the economic and political history of Cornwall during the 17th century.
