Don Laws
Don Laws (born November 16, 1929, died November 25, 2014) was an American figure skating coach. He is best known for coaching Scott Hamilton to a gold medal at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, as well as four consecutive World Figure Skating Championships from 1981 to 1984.
Laws began coaching in the 1950s, initially working at the Bowling Green State University ice arena. He later moved to the Chicago area and then to the Detroit Skating Club, where he spent the majority of his career.
Beyond Hamilton, Laws coached numerous other successful figure skaters, including Lisa-Marie Allen, Craig Heath, and Todd Eldredge early in Eldredge's career. He was recognized for his technical expertise and his ability to build strong relationships with his students. He was known for his supportive and demanding coaching style.
Laws was inducted into the Professional Skaters Association Coaches Hall of Fame in 2002. His contributions to the sport of figure skating are widely recognized and respected.
