German submarine U-151 (1940)

U-151 was a German Type IXC U-boat of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine during World War II. Her construction began on 15 May 1940 at the DeSchiMAG AG Weser shipyard in Bremen as yard number 989. She was launched on 2 May 1941 and commissioned on 15 August 1941 under the command of Kapitänleutnant Heinrich Schroeteler.

U-151 conducted seven war patrols, primarily in the North Atlantic and along the US Eastern Seaboard. During these patrols, she sank 14 ships for a total of 66,762 gross register tons (GRT), damaged two ships for a total of 12,645 GRT, and sank one auxiliary warship of 7,970 GRT.

Notable events during her service included sinking the British armed merchant cruiser HMS Aurania in 1942.

On 17 July 1944, U-151 was scuttled by her crew in the Bay of Biscay near Lorient, France, to prevent capture by Allied forces. The wreck remains on the seabed.

The U-151 was equipped with six torpedo tubes (four bow, two stern), one 10.5 cm (4.1 in) SK C/32 naval gun, and a 3.7 cm (1.5 in) Flak M42 anti-aircraft gun, as well as a 2 cm (0.79 in) C/30 anti-aircraft gun.

Her operational history and the statistics of her sinkings reflect the typical operational effectiveness of Type IXC U-boats during the Battle of the Atlantic.
