HMNZS Rotoiti (1975)

HMNZS Rotoiti (F422) was a Leander-class frigate of the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN). Commissioned in 1975, she was the second ship of the RNZN to bear the name Rotoiti, which refers to a lake near Rotorua in New Zealand.

Rotoiti was built by Yarrow Shipbuilders in Scotland and was fitted with a Type 12I hull (Improved Leander). Unlike some other Leanders, she retained her twin 4.5-inch gun mount forward and was not converted to carry Exocet missiles or a flight deck.

Throughout her service life, Rotoiti participated in various exercises and deployments, often in the Pacific region. She was involved in naval exercises with Australia, the United States, and other nations. She also served in peacekeeping and humanitarian roles.

Rotoiti was decommissioned in 1997 and subsequently sold for scrap. She was replaced in RNZN service by the Anzac-class frigate HMNZS Te Kaha.
