Del Monte (train)
The Del Monte was a passenger train operated by the Southern Pacific Railroad in California, running between San Francisco and Monterey. It was inaugurated in 1889 and operated until 1971. The train was notable for serving the Del Monte Hotel in Monterey, a luxury resort that attracted wealthy and influential passengers. For much of its history, the Del Monte was known for its luxurious accommodations and scenic route along the California coast. The route typically involved a connection at Pacific Grove or Monterey for the final leg to the Del Monte Hotel. In its later years, declining passenger numbers led to a reduction in service and eventual discontinuation.
