Northvolt

Northvolt is a Swedish battery manufacturer specializing in lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems. Founded in 2016 by Peter Carlsson and Paolo Cerruti, the company aims to establish a European supply chain for sustainable batteries, reducing reliance on Asian manufacturers.

Northvolt's primary goal is to produce batteries with a significantly lower carbon footprint than those currently available on the market. This is achieved through the use of renewable energy in its manufacturing processes, as well as focusing on responsible sourcing of raw materials and developing robust recycling programs.

The company's initial large-scale battery gigafactory, Northvolt Ett, is located in Skellefteå, Sweden. It began production in late 2021. Northvolt has also announced plans for additional factories in Europe, including Germany.

Northvolt is actively involved in research and development, focusing on advanced battery chemistries and manufacturing techniques.
