USS Ohio

The USS Ohio has been the name of three ships in the United States Navy:

  • USS Ohio (1820): A 74-gun ship of the line, authorized in 1817, launched in 1820, and served until 1883. She participated in the Mexican-American War.

  • USS Ohio (BB-12): An Maine-class battleship, commissioned in 1904 and served until 1922. She participated in the cruise of the Great White Fleet.

  • USS Ohio (SSBN-726): The lead ship of the Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines. She was commissioned in 1981 and remains in active service as a guided-missile submarine (SSGN) after conversion. The Ohio-class submarines are a key component of the U.S. Navy's strategic nuclear deterrent.
