Lee Johnson (football coach)

Lee Johnson (born 7 June 1981) is an English football manager and former professional player. He is currently the manager of Fleetwood Town.

Playing Career:

Johnson began his playing career as a midfielder with Yeovil Town in 1999. He also played for Heart of Midlothian, Bristol City, Derby County, Chesterfield, and Kilmarnock. His playing career was cut short due to injuries.

Managerial Career:

  • Oldham Athletic (2013-2015): Johnson began his managerial career at Oldham Athletic, becoming the youngest manager in the Football League at the time of his appointment. He guided Oldham to safety in League One during his tenure.

  • Barnsley (2015-2016): He moved to Barnsley in 2015, but left the club before the end of the season.

  • Bristol City (2016-2020): Johnson was appointed manager of Bristol City in February 2016. He spent over four years in charge, achieving a League Cup semi-final appearance in the 2017-18 season, defeating several Premier League teams along the way. He was eventually dismissed in July 2020 following a run of poor form.

  • Hibernian (2022-2023): In May 2022, Johnson was appointed manager of Scottish Premiership club Hibernian. He was sacked in August 2023 following a poor start to the season.

  • Fleetwood Town (2024-Present): Johnson was appointed manager of Fleetwood Town in March 2024.
