Royal Victoria Yacht Club (England)
The Royal Victoria Yacht Club (RVYC) is a yacht club located in Fishbourne, Isle of Wight, England. Founded in 1844 by a group of yachtsmen led by Lord Yarborough, it is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the United Kingdom. Queen Victoria granted the club royal status in 1847.
Historically, the RVYC was considered a highly prestigious and exclusive club, playing a significant role in the development of yachting as a sport and social activity. It hosted numerous regattas and events, attracting prominent figures from British society and the international yachting community.
While its influence and social standing may have evolved over time, the Royal Victoria Yacht Club remains an active sailing club, offering a range of activities for its members, including racing, cruising, and social events. It maintains a clubhouse in Fishbourne, providing facilities for members and visitors. The club continues to promote yachting and maritime activities within the Solent and beyond.
