Hsia Yang

Hsia Yang (夏陽, born 1932) is a Taiwanese artist best known for his contributions to abstract and modern art movements in Taiwan. He is particularly associated with the Ton Fan Art Group (東方畫會), also known as the Eastern Painting Society, which he co-founded in 1956 with artists like Li Chun-shan, Wu Hao, and Hsiao Chin.

Hsia Yang's early work explored abstract expressionism and experimented with various media, including painting, collage, and printmaking. He is known for his unique and innovative approach to art, often incorporating geometric shapes, symbolic imagery, and a distinct color palette. His style evolved over time, reflecting influences from both Eastern and Western art traditions.

In the 1960s, Hsia Yang moved to Paris, where he continued to develop his artistic practice and exhibit his work internationally. His time in Europe exposed him to new artistic movements and ideas, further shaping his artistic vision. He later returned to Taiwan and continued to be a significant figure in the Taiwanese art scene, influencing younger generations of artists.
