Born Innocent (Alcatrazz album)
Born Innocent is the fourth studio album by the American heavy metal band Alcatrazz, released in 2020. It is the first Alcatrazz album in 34 years, following 1986's Dangerous Games. The album marks a significant reformation of the band, featuring original members Graham Bonnet (vocals), Jimmy Waldo (keyboards), and new additions Joe Stump (guitar), Mark Benquechea (drums), and Gary Shea (bass).
The album's title is a reference to a controversial television movie of the same name, Born Innocent, which aired in 1974. While the album doesn't directly deal with the film's themes, Bonnet chose the title to evoke a sense of rebellion and defiance.
Born Innocent received mixed reviews upon release. While some critics praised the band's energy and Stump's guitar work, others criticized the album's songwriting and production quality, finding it to be inconsistent with the band's earlier work. The album explores various hard rock and heavy metal styles, showcasing Bonnet's vocal range and the band's instrumental prowess. It features both aggressive, high-energy tracks and more melodic, atmospheric pieces. The album was released through Silver Lining Music.
