Bodfeld
The Bodfeld is a heavily wooded region in the Harz mountains of Germany, located primarily in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. It represents the easternmost portion of the Harz and is characterized by its relatively remote and sparsely populated nature compared to the western Harz. Historically, the Bodfeld served as a significant source of timber and raw materials for the surrounding areas. The area's name is likely derived from its historical role as a royal hunting ground or a "Bannwald" (protected forest). Today, the Bodfeld is a popular destination for hiking and outdoor recreation, offering a more secluded experience compared to other, more well-known parts of the Harz. Notable features include the remnants of historical charcoal burning sites, diverse flora and fauna, and walking trails. The Brocken, the highest peak in the Harz mountains, is visible from certain vantage points within the Bodfeld region.
