Ma On Shan (peak)
Ma On Shan, also known as Saddle Hill due to its distinctive saddle-like shape, is the second highest peak in the Ma On Shan Country Park in Hong Kong, with a height of 702 metres (2,303 ft) above sea level. It is located in the eastern New Territories.
The peak is a popular hiking destination, offering panoramic views of Sai Kung, Sha Tin, and the surrounding islands. Several trails lead to the summit, varying in difficulty. The most popular route is via the MacLehose Trail Section 4, followed by an ascent to the peak.
The area around Ma On Shan peak is characterized by steep slopes and dense vegetation. Its geological composition includes granite and volcanic rocks.
The name "Ma On Shan" translates to "Saddle Mountain" in Cantonese, directly referencing its shape. The peak is a prominent landmark in the eastern New Territories and is visible from many parts of Hong Kong.
