Ann Barr

Ann Barr (born Ann Hope Barr, date of birth unknown, died 2003) was a British writer and editor, best known for co-authoring The Official Sloane Ranger Handbook (1982) with Peter York. The book, a humorous sociological study of a specific upper-middle-class subculture in Britain, became a surprise bestseller and coined the term "Sloane Ranger" which entered common parlance.

Barr worked as a features editor for Harpers & Queen magazine for many years. Prior to that, she worked at Vogue magazine. Her collaboration with Peter York stemmed from observations and articles published in Harpers & Queen about contemporary social trends. After the success of The Official Sloane Ranger Handbook, Barr and York continued to collaborate on other projects, though none achieved the same level of popularity. Ann Barr's contributions extended beyond her writing; she was known for her astute observations and understanding of British social dynamics.
