Reuben Merrill
Reuben Merrill (1817-1875) was a prominent shipbuilder from Yarmouth, Maine, United States. He was known for constructing large, well-built sailing vessels during the golden age of sail. Merrill established his shipyard in Yarmouth in the 1850s and produced a significant number of clipper ships, packets, and other types of merchant vessels. These ships were highly regarded for their speed, durability, and elegant design, contributing to Yarmouth's reputation as a shipbuilding center. He often worked in partnership with others, including his brother, Jacob. Notable vessels built by Reuben Merrill include the B.F. Poole, the Barkentine Australia, and the Dirigo. His contributions significantly impacted maritime trade and commerce during the 19th century.
